Jeffrey Arnold came to ENTARIAN to lead the new Innovation Foundry in October 2024 from MITRE Corporation where he had led geosciences research and development from the Emerging Technologies Innovation Center as Chief Scientist for Climate, Weather, and Environmental Sciences since 2022.
Before going to MITRE, Jeff began his 25-year U.S. federal research career doing computational and experimental atmospheric chemistry in national labs at NSF, NOAA, and USEPA. There he led novel sensor development and field deployments at the surface and aloft and led HPC-scale numerical studies of atmospheric chemical transformations under conditions of future change. Jeff then created and led for more than 10 years as Chief Climate Scientist the US Army Engineer Climate Science for Hydrologic Engineering National Program. His program produced and made publicly available decades of field observations and continental- and regional-scale hydro-climatology numerical model products along with transforms of those into the focused engineering inputs still used by the U.S. federal agencies responsible for national water and energy security.
Jeff’s work at ENTARIAN now involves directed science and technical innovation in part using advanced analytics including machine learning emulators and other artificial intelligence components. The goal of that work is to speed-up decision-makers’ access to and use of the very large arrays of Earth science, space weather, and other observed data and numerical model products by operationalizing those data products into specific solutions that can better inform decisions and actions supporting U.S. national security and prosperity.

Jeff holds a Ph.D. in tropospheric chemistry and physics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, regularly reviews for journals in the atmospheric and hydrologic sciences, and has co-written more than 150 peer-reviewed open-literature publications.
