SCIENCE DATA PROCESSING

Entarian refines existing workflows for collecting, collating, processing, and archiving space and Earth systems data, and producing science data packages for distribution to other scientists and decision-makers. We bring a deep bench of capabilities in multiple aspects of space weather and Earth system science, and we pair those physical science capabilities with our fast-growing data science competencies and technical proficiencies to put not only data but data-driven numerical models and interpreted answers in the hands of decision-makers quickly.

Solution in Action

In 2025 alone, 23 weather and climate disasters in the U.S. caused at least $1B in damages with a combined total of more than $115B, the third highest annual estimate on record. Data and model products created and supported by Entarian have increased the accuracy, specificity, and actionability of forecasts ahead of these disasters and closely support the response and recovery from floods, droughts, cyclones, and fires across the U.S.

Challenge

New and evolving societal needs like serving the fast-increasing coastal urban populations and the widely distributed populations at the Wildland Fire Urban Interface are being met by NOAA’s National Weather Service by supplementing typical forecasting with refined Impact‑Based Decision Support Services (IDSS). The NOAA Weather Prediction Center (WPC) is responsible for delivering IDSS‑relevant information and interpretative services that enable decision‑makers to safeguard life and property when changing weather patterns pose direct risks. Meeting this mission demands continuous improvement in long‑range forecasting, model + data integration, and stakeholder engagement before, during, and after the disaster strikes.

Solution

Entarian supports the WPC by providing data and tools for deeper understanding and more accurate and timely forecast interpretations using innovative collaborative development environments. These collaboratively developed and supported tools strengthen WPC’s delivery of high‑quality, timely sub‑seasonal to seasonal forecasts in all of NOAA’s mission domains. With Entarian’s close support over XX years to WPC’s collaborative prototyping, pre‑operational testbeds, and operational proving grounds, we have built an enviable record of continuous improvement on defined tasks, accelerated innovation as new tasks and issues arise, and close support to multiple NOAA NWS offices for enhanced coordination with stakeholders in NOAA’s mission to protect life and property. Our continuing efforts enhance WPC’s capabilities to acquire, process, archive, and disseminate weather data products; develop, test, and deploy improved prediction techniques; and more tightly align these innovative forecast products with the new sets of user needs.

Impact

In our side-by-side support to the WPC teams’ continuing enhancement of their IDSS approach and products, Entarian helps proactively mitigate the short-term damage and longer-term impacts and costs in lives and dollars of damaging weather and climate events. Our work with WPC to refine our existing understanding of weather and climate and to develop and deploy new forecast methods and tools contributes directly to the nationally determined priorities for safeguarding lives and property by developing, implementing, and supporting weather- and climate-scale applications in the agricultural, transportation, water resources, public health, critical infrastructure, and national security sectors in the U.S.

Solutions in Action

Entarian safeguards lives by supporting the SARSAT system, delivering secure, real‑time distress alerts through continuous 24/7/365 operations. In coordination with the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, NASA, and NOAA, Entarian ensures the system remains mission‑ready when lives are on the line.

Challenge

Search and rescue operations depend on uninterrupted, secure, and accurate distress signal detection across a global satellite and ground network. Any lapse in availability, data integrity, or security could delay emergency response and put lives at risk, requiring exceptional reliability and coordination across multiple agencies.

Solution

Entarian provides comprehensive operations, systems engineering, cybersecurity, software development, and end‑user support for the SARSAT system. The team ensures data integrity, performs trend analysis, implements continuous monitoring and security testing, and deploys validated technologies. Entarian also collaborates closely with NOAA through enterprise architecture planning and proactively transitions SARSAT to modern enterprise tools, often serving as a model system for NESDIS modernization efforts.

Impact

ERT’s support enables reliable, real‑time distress alerting that directly saves lives, with hundreds of rescues each year supported by high system availability and performance. Modernized infrastructure, enhanced security, and improved monitoring tools strengthen mission resilience, support rapid response by search and rescue partners, and ensure SARSAT remains a trusted, life‑saving capability for the nation.
