Challenge

The satellite sensor calibration and validation (Cal/Val) activities conducted by the NOAA NESDIS, STAR, are foundational to NOAA’s mission and directly support the protection of life, property, and the economy of the United States.  These activities ensure the accuracy and reliability of satellite data products used for weather forecasting, environmental monitoring, disaster response, and long-term assessments. Continuing these operations is vital for protecting lives, infrastructure, and national interests.

Solution

Entarian’s  Cal/Val services ensure that satellite radiometers, sounders, and imagers provide precise measurements of Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, and land surface. These measurements feed into numerical weather prediction models used by the National Weather Service. We ensure satellite observations are trustworthy for rapid detection and monitoring of wildfires, volcanic eruptions, floods, droughts, hurricanes, and oil spills.

What we do

Antenna operations, maintenance, and sustainment engineering

We provide comprehensive antenna operations, maintenance, and sustainment engineering for satellite ground systems, ensuring high availability, precision tracking, and reliable RF performance across all mission phases. Our capabilities include preventative and corrective maintenance, calibration, anomaly resolution, and lifecycle engineering to sustain and modernize antenna assets. Leveraging data-driven monitoring and disciplined configuration control, we optimize performance, minimize downtime, and ensure continuous mission support in demanding operational environments.

Data processing, archive, and dissemination

Entarian supports the full data lifecycle from the moment the data is received on the ground, through ground system formatting and processing, further processing to Level 1B, Level 2+, Level 3 and  higher data formats.  This data is then used to feed environmental, weather and earth observing models to ensure that data products, environmental monitoring and other weather related decisions are informed and prioritized.  This data is stored in long-term archives that store the data in optimized ways to facilitate efficient, low-cost storage and quick, expedient retrieval.

Ground segment and network operations management

We manage a range of satellite ground systems supporting Low Earth Orbit (LEO), Geosynchronous and Lagrange orbits to ensure that all mission functions maximize availability and performance to ensure data receipt, data processing, health and status telemetry, instrument data, flight parameters and satellite commanding are functioning normally promote continuous, consistent data streams that allow for smooth satellite operation, as well as data product generation and distribution upstream to all end users worldwide.

Real-time anomaly detection and resolution

We use a disciplined, experienced approach to identifying, detecting, characterizing, characterizing and resolving real-time operational anomalies and events.  Anomalies are triaged and diagnosed by subject matter experts, who can identify and diagnose anomalies and implement corrective actions or workarounds that restore operations while minimizing downtime or loss of data, while implementing resolutions once the system is back up and operational.  Our team uses documented procedures combined with extensive training and expertise to diagnose these anomalies quickly.

Mission readiness and systems integration testing

We deliver comprehensive mission readiness and systems integration testing through a disciplined systems engineering process that verifies end-to-end performance across space, ground, network, and data segments. Our approach includes rigorous interface validation, integrated test events, and high-fidelity mission rehearsals to ensure all components operate seamlessly under nominal and contingency conditions.
